Conventional polymer tips in high BC bullets melt in flight. Hornady engineers discovered that conventional bullet tip materials in streamlined, high BC bullets melt and deform. Although not a significant issue affecting moderate BC conventional tipped varmint and hunting bullets, aerodynamic heating causes BC reduction and degradation of accuracy, particularly at extended ranges (400 yds +). To counter this effect, Hornady identified a heat resistant polymer and developed the patent pending Heat Shield tip. This revolutionary new tip creates the perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from bullet-to-bullet and lot-to-lot. The Heat Shield tip defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. Sierra MatchKing rifle bullets are super-accurate bullets with very thin jackets and are held to exacting tolerances in diameter and weight. Their accuracy has been acclaimed worldwide and they have been used to win more target competitions than all target bullets from other manufacturers combined. Weight retention is held to within /- 0.3 grain. Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip, thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Due to the ballistic advantage that the tip provides, the 168 Tipped MatchKing (TMK) will stay supersonic at 1,000 yards at normal .308 Winchester velocities, unlike its untipped counterpart. The Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet is an excellent choice for Palma and F-Class (FTR / F Open) matches, as well as 3-Gun and various other competitions. SPEER 30 Cal (.308) 168gr HPBT BULLET MATCH 100/Box
Product Information
Speer boat tail bullets are designed for long-range shooting. The tapered heel that gives the bullet type its name reduces aerodynamic drag for flatter trajectories. The boat tails are designed for more rapid expansion than Hot-Cor, so they are an excellent choice for whitetail deer and antelope. In the larger calibers, they are great for long shots at just about any non-dangerous game. Like Speer’s other hunting bullets, the jackets taper from a thicker shank section to a thin nose section to keep retained weights high.
