Nitro cards are used as a seal between the powder and the shot. They can be used in place of a plastic shotcup in fiber wad loads. Most modern load designs use nitro card (reduced diameter) wads within a shotcup for managing space. They can also be placed over the powder and underneath the wad to push up the entire shot column. We’ve even used these .125″ as overshot cards. They produce better crimps and serve as a valuable spacer. Nitro card wads are constructed of a specialized material selected to withstand the tortures of slow-burning powders and heavy payloads.

Years ago, Ballistic Products developed this special combination of ingredients to handle the difficulties of steel and very large pellets. As an absolute success, Mix 47 has been used for all buffering applications since. Minimum pressure increase, maximum pattern density, and round pellets are the result with Mix 47. Mix 47 stabilizes steel shot pellets and keeps patterns dense, even under the stress of 1500 fps velocities!

Place an overshot card on top of the shot charge just before crimping. Overshot cards ensure flatter, tighter crimps; more consistent load combustion and pellet containment. Besides the benefits of a proper crimp, overshot cards do the critical work of containing pellets within the shotcup during the firing cycle and during the journey through your shotgun's barrel. Recommended for all high performance loads.
