Soft point bullets do not have their lead cores completely enclosed by a metal jacket; rather, the gilding metal jacket ends toward the bullet’s tip exposing the lead core.
This bullet design enables significant expansion of the bullet’s diameter when encountering the target. Soft point, or “SP” bullets produce much greater damage to the target than fully jacketed bullets, an important advantage for hunters desiring a large wound channel for quick put-downs and clean kills.
