ELD Match bullets are technologically advanced, enhanced accuracy target bullets featuring Heat Shield tips with the PERFECT MEPLAT (tip point) combined with numerous design features that deliver the highest-in-class ballistic coefficients, superior accuracy and extreme consistency from bullet-to-bullet, lot-to-lot.
All manufacturers conventional polymer tips in high BC bullets melt in flight. Hornady® engineers discovered that conventional bullet tip materials in streamlined, high BC bullets melt and deform. Although not a significant issue affecting moderate BC conventional tipped varmint and hunting bullets, aerodynamic heating causes BC reduction and degradation of accuracy, particularly at extended ranges (400 yds +). To counter this effect, Hornady® identified a heat resistant polymer and developed the patent pending Heat Shield™ tip. This revolutionary new tip creates the perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from bullet-to-bullet and lot-to-lot.
Superior accuracy and industry leading ballistic design has been achieved with the ELD Match bullet. An optimum secant ogive and boattail design along with the patent-pending Heat Shield tip produce a bullet with the highest possible ballistic coefficient in its class. The polymer tip of the V-Max bullet is the key to its dramatic accuracy and devastating expansion, even in long range, low-velocity situations. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for improved velocity and flight stability, and on impact initiates bullet expansion. The copper jacket is designed to work with the tip to deliver incredible accuracy at long range, and it assists the V-Max’s dramatic expansion. The copper jacket provides the necessary bearing surface for maximum in-flight stability. The jacket is built to withstand the faster twist rates of many of today’s advanced varmint rifles. It all means the bullet will hold together until impact.

The Nosler Partition is still the benchmark by which all modern bullets are measured. Nosler’s special lead-alloy, dual-core provides superior mushrooming characteristics at virtually all impact velocities. The fully tapered copper-alloy jacket ruptures instantly at the thin jacket mouth, yet the gradual thickening along the bullet’s axis controls expansion and curls the jacket uniformly outward at high and low velocities. Nosler’s integral partition supports the expanded mushroom and retains the rear lead-alloy core. The 6.5mm/.264 inch bore has recently enjoyed a resurgence of interest. Several rifle manufacturers currently produce 6.5x55mm sporters, exposing a new generation of shooters to this famous old Scandinavian service and hunting cartridge. Competitive HighPower and Silhouette shooters have also shown great interest in the 6.5mm bore size.
The 142 grain #1742 bullet has a longer ogive radius than the 140 grain #1740 bullet and thus a higher ballistic coefficient with less sensitivity to crosswinds.
While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts.
